"City Estate in the House of Feldsher Poplavsky" Museum

Office of Feldsher Vasily Poplavsky: At the beginning of the last century, feldsher Vasily Poplavsky, who came to Biysk from Irkutsk, set up a medical office in his home to receive patients. Among the many exhibits, the museum holds several unique items. For example, beautiful pharmacy vials with the imperial coat of arms and the logo of Ferrein's private pharmacy – a very famous one in Moscow. The collection includes an old coffee can made by the Moscow imperial company "Ferrein," which likely produced not only coffee but also medicines. Judging by the design, this can could have held children's drops or any other medicine. The can is over 100 years old and is a unique element of the museum's collection.

The Great Hall: The hall of the old mansion is decorated in blue tones – old dark blue heavy curtains with muslin edges and light blue wallpaper. A stately old chest of drawers and the main attribute of an intelligent family of the last century – a grand piano – are displayed here. On the wall is a photograph of the Poplavsky family – Vasily Nikitich and his wife Wanda Osipovna Yushkevich. A large chiming clock and an old gramophone – all are in working order thanks to the Biysk master Vladislav Malyanov. The hall contains a Viennese furniture set, a small sofa and chairs from a famous Austrian company, and a modern-style table.

The Bedroom: The bedroom has several unique exhibits – a wardrobe from the 1950s, a gift from the neighbors; an interestingly shaped mirror with a pediment, the kind only found in wealthy merchant families. And, of course, an attribute of every family – a "Singer" sewing machine.

The Kitchen: The museum's exposition features a cozy, bright kitchen with a large whitewashed Russian stove, on which one can cook. In front of a large window with embroidered curtains stands a dining table with a pot-bellied samovar. The sideboard contains many interesting old dishes, iron cans that once stored cocoa, coffee, sweets, candies, honey, and even tooth powder. A unique item in the collection is a flask from the Akutikha glass factory, which was built in the village of Akutikha in 1911. It is a war-period flask, of the type sent directly to the front. The kitchen is very warm – a real Russian stove is heated. This is the fourth stove in the house, made to the exact dimensions of the one that was here before. It is beautiful, with steps that allow one to easily climb onto the stove to lie down and warm up. Currently, a collection of old charcoal irons is displayed on it.

The museum conducts tours by prior appointment. During the tour, visitors have the opportunity to browse through old health magazines dating from the 1960s. These publications offer a glimpse into how people took care of their health in the last century. These simple recipes can be an excellent source of information about what health issues concerned people and how they treated them.

In the summer of 2023, the museum was well and logically integrated into a major tour of the old merchant city. The route starts from Fomchenko Square, passes along Sovetskaya Street, and concludes at this museum.
