Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum
Branch of the Anokhin National Museum in Ust-Kan village, "Ust-Kansky District" municipality. Opened on the basis of a school museum in Mendur-Sokkon village, created on the initiative of the school director Nikolai Andreevich Shodoev. Teachers and students of the school, as well as villagers, participated in the creation of the museum. In 1981, the museum received a separate building, where exhibitions on the history of the village, ethnography (material and spiritual culture of the Altai population of Gorny Altai), the Great Patriotic War, and the history of collective farm construction in the village were deployed.
Since 1994, the museum has been a branch of the Anokhin Republican Museum.
In February 2007, the museum was moved to Ust-Kan village, where a separate building (the former prosecutor's office building) was provided. By decision of the district session, the museum was renamed the I.V. Shodoev Museum of Local Lore.
The museum's collections and exhibitions present the material and spiritual culture of the Altai people and the history of the Ust-Kansky District.
