Brief historical background, collections and exhibitions of the museum

Status: Private museum (Dieta LLC).

Historical background (about the building where the museum is located): The "House with Shops" from the early 20th century, located at: 66 Pushkina St., Barnaul, Altai Krai. Until 1899, Pushkina Street was called Irkutskaya Line. It was considered central, and living on it was prestigious; wealthy merchants built their houses here. In 1913, Mrs. Maria Kruger, who ran a famous pharmacy in Barnaul, received permission to build a two-story stone house with a shop on the first floor and rooms for the owners and tenants on the second. Stone patterns on the first floor, a carved wooden fringe along the roof cornice – this is roughly what most of Pushkina Street looked like before the fire of 1917. The whitewash over the brick, a popular technique in Barnaul architecture of the early 20th century, gave the house a particularly festive look. After the 1917 revolution, the building was nationalized and turned into a school. In the early 1950s, a new school was built, and the building was given to the City Architecture Department. In the early 1990s, a shelter for people in difficult life situations was opened in this building. Over its hundred-year history, the building fell into disrepair and was declared unsafe in 2016. The shelter was closed. After restoration, the Museum of Chocolate Craftsmanship opened in it in October 2019. It filled the historic house with a warm atmosphere of creativity and comfort.

The "Museum of Chocolate Craftsmanship" in Barnaul has been operating since 2019.
